Lexi's letter

Lex's letter was written by Lexi in December 2024. It was first shared with Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust and their initial encouragement and feedback prompted Lexi's plan to create something which would make hospital treatment better for all young people. Colleagues at the Trust are intending to use it to develop resources for clinicians and are also hoping to create a children's book using the words.

We're sharing it with you because we know many NHS teams are facing increasing pressure to improve young people's experience of care, particularly around communication, emotional support, and helping children feel heard during treatment. Clinicians want quick, authentic tools that make it easier to understand the perspective of young patients, and comms and patient-experience colleagues tell us they need credible, emotionally resonant resources that can engage staff and support quality improvement work.

Lexi's Letter was created to support exactly these challenges. It offers a simple, powerful way to help team reflect, connect and make positive change for patients. It can be downloaded here as an animation and a poster as a patient-development resource. This may include creating different formats for Lexi's words, but please do not change Lexi's words or attribute them to anyone else.
