School Conference

The School Conference is held every year and is an opportunity to network, recognise and celebrate the diversity of work taking place throughout the East Midlands region.
Emips Conference 2026
The Emips conference 2026 is taking place on Monday 16 November 2026 at the Park Plaza Hotel, Nottingham. The Accent booking link is now live so please book here in order to reserve your place.
We are seeking abstracts for presentations lasting 15 minutes (10 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions) or a poster presentation. The following categories are suggestions but the list is by no means exhaustive:

Quality improvement and audit

"Broaden your horizons" (experiences from OOPE or voluntary/charity medical related things)
Please send your abstracts to england.futureworkforce@nhs.net and julia.edwards17@nhs.net before 30 August 2026. The list of presentations and posters will be confirmed by 14 September 2026.
Guidelines for abstract submissions

Maximum 300 words
-
Should include a paediatric resident doctor working within the East Midlands School are as first or second author. Work by medical students or foundation trainees working within paediatrics will also be welcomed.
Guidelines for posters

Poster size should be a maximum of A1 (594mm x 841mm) ideally in portrait format.

Poster can be resubmitted from another conference (within the last 18 months)

One or more of the author(s) will be expected to attend the conference.

Details regarding the displaying of the poster at the conference will be given nearer the time.
The abstract is your chance to sell the presentation and should be a concise summary of the research, case report of presentation. If you have not written one before, please ask your educational supervisor or college tutor for some advice. We want to encourage people who have not presented before to get involved in this conference so will be kind! However, this is a good opportunity to hone your abstract writing skills. Emips Conference 2025
The Emips conference 2025 is now over for another year having taken place on a beautiful and sunny autumnal day at the Leicester Tigers Stadium on the 23 September 2025. We had a fantastic programme of talks covering the diverse work that has been happening right across the region over the past year, as well as updates from the School of Paediatrics itself and its education committees.

A special congratulations goes to Freya Patel, who won first prize for her oral presentation entitled 'Right on time: improving prompt completion of discharge summaries'. The runner's up oral abstracts were presented to Shaarna Shanmugavadivel for 'What is the Current State of Play for Diagnosis of Childhood Cancer in the UK : The results of the Childhood Cancer Diagnosis Study' and Jenna Harris for 'The NHSE Clinical Fellowship, jointly funded by Rainbows Hospice'. The winners of the poster presentations were Emily Nyarko for 'One year outcome of babies diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosis (PDA)'; Doa'a Abdalla for 'When pain is more than benign: clinical presentations of Ewing Sarcoma in children'; and Ejiro Ogonor for 'Proptosis, a rare initial clinical manifestation of leukaema in children'.
